Our History
The University Library was established in 2016 as a cornerstone of the institution’s academic mission, created to support learning, teaching, and research. At its inception, the library occupied a modest space of 80 square metres, offering a small but carefully selected collection of books and basic reading facilities. Despite its limited size, the library quickly became an essential academic hub, nurturing a culture of reading, inquiry, and scholarly engagement among students and staff.
As student enrolment grew and academic programs expanded, the need for a larger and more dynamic learning environment became evident. Responding to this growth, the library underwent a major development phase that transformed it into a modern academic facility. Today, the library covers an impressive 400 square metres, providing expanded reading areas, dedicated research spaces, computer workstations, and improved access to both print and digital resources.

Administration
At Metropolitan International University (MIU), the overall administration of the Library is entrusted to the University Librarian, in line with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act (2001). The University Librarian reports to the Vice-Chancellor through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs (DVC-AA) and provides strategic leadership in the planning, coordination, and development of library services to support teaching, learning, and research.
The University Librarian works with Deputy Librarians, Heads of Sections, and Faculty/College Librarians to implement library policies, programmes, and regulations. Policy direction is provided by the Academic Programmes and Library Committee, a committee of the University Senate chaired by the DVC-AA, and composed of representatives from academic staff, the Library, students, and other stakeholders.
To ensure effective operations, the MIU Library conducts its activities through several committees, including Finance, Appointments, ICTs/Projects, Research and Staff Development, Preservation and Conservation, and Staff Welfare, all aimed at promoting quality service delivery, accountability, and continuous improvement.
